Happy Daylight Savings Day! The Cairo-Durham Rotarians used our extra hour this morning by cleaning up Route 23 by the Cairo-Catskill town lines, where we adopted the highway 3-years ago!

🚨Dear Neighbors,

Over 55 years ago, the Cairo Rotary Club was chartered with the mission of serving both our local community and the world. Throughout the decades, hundreds of dedicated Rotarians have worked tirelessly as 100% volunteers, contributing to countless projects that have impacted the lives of many.

As a non-denominational, apolitical service organization, the Cairo Rotary Club has always focused on making a difference. Locally, our efforts have touched a wide array of causes, from supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and local fire departments to aiding the Cairo-Durham School District, the Columbia Greene Women’s Cancer League, and the Cairo Food Pantry. We have helped fund sports leagues, the Cairo Town Park, and various other organizations, demonstrating a commitment to our community's health, well-being, and growth. Twice a year, we gather to clean Route 23, ensuring our town remains beautiful and inviting.

Our commitment to service extends beyond local borders. The Cairo Rotary Club has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to international projects, including working towards the eradication of polio and providing shelter boxes to disaster-stricken areas around the world. We’ve been proud to host exchange students from different corners of the globe and send Cairo youth to engage in international cultural exchange, enriching the lives of all involved. Most recently, we traveled to Costa Rica to help build a women’s shelter and butterfly museum alongside Cairo-Durham students.

Unfortunately, despite our long-standing dedication to service, the Cairo Rotary Club faces an uncertain future. Due to a lack of volunteers and new leadership, the club will be disbanding in June of 2025. This decision is heartbreaking for the current members, who have fought to keep the club alive, but without fresh involvement, our mission is unsustainable.

In the 55 years we’ve been active, the Cairo Rotary Club has contributed well over $100,000 and countless volunteer hours to make a positive impact. We are incredibly proud of our work, and it pains us to see it come to an end. However, we are holding out hope that someone in or around Cairo will step forward to help continue the legacy of service that has defined this organization.

If you are interested in helping to keep the Cairo Rotary Club’s mission alive, we invite you to join us at Angel’s of Cairo on April 23, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Please RSVP to Beau Loendorf at Beau.oloendorf@gmail.com. Together, we can continue this incredible work and make a lasting impact on our community and the world.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We hope to see you there.

All the best,
